Our History

The Tamitik Status of Women Association (TSW) was incorporated in December of 1976 and is responsible to a Board of Directors that operates under a Constitution and By-Laws.  TSW is an active agency that provides programs and services for individuals and families focused on the intervention and prevention of violence against women, youth, and children, as well as poverty issues in our community. We began as a grass-roots organization of women who shared their experiences and supported each other.

TSW now has 9 programs with a variety of services, which are currently funded through; BC Housing, the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General: Victim Services and Crime Prevention Division, the Ministry of Finance: Gaming Policy and Enforcement Division, the Kitimat Community Foundation, local businesses, and individual donors.
