Homeless Prevention Program

For individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness

The Homeless Prevention Program connects people who are homeless, at-risk of homelessness due to crisis, or in transition to housing with income assistance and community-based support services.

The program is available to individuals and their dependent children, for example:

  • Women who have experienced violence or are at risk of violence
  • Youth, including those leaving the foster care system
  • People of Aboriginal decent
  • People leaving the corrections and hospital system.

There is no cost to access, and all our employees observe strict confidentiality guidelines.

What the program can do

We may be able to assist individuals and families with:

  • A portion of your rent
  • A damage deposit
  • Storage costs while obtaining housing
  • An expense that will remove a barrier to housing or prevent eviction
  • Utilities in order to remain housed
  • Transportation to a housing opportunity
  • Moving expenses
  • Start-up costs

We can advocate on behalf of individuals to:

  • Landlords and building owners
  • Income assistance
  • Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD)
  • Community Agencies
  • Employment Centers
  • Doctos
  • Probation
  • Victim Services

What to expect

The program operates within a strict funding framework set by BC Housing. We have to determine each client’s individual needs by completing an assessment during an appointment with our Homeless Outreach Worker.
