Second stage housing programs provide housing and supports for women and their children who have left abusive relationships as they make plans for independent living. Many women are referred to second stage housing programs from shorter-term transition houses and safe home programs.
Tamitik Status of Women operates 12 units of Second Stage Housing (this includes studio, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom) for women and their children located in Kitimat. Our units are private, secure, low-cost apartments where you can live safely and independently up to 2 years. Staff are available to provide emotional support, safety planning and referrals.
Long-term housing provides subsidized rental housing to women and children at risk of violence or who have experienced violence. Rental fees are calculated on a rent geared to income basis, specifically 30% of the household's total gross income, with a minimum rent based on number of people in the household.
Tamitik Status of Women operates 20 units of Long Term Housing (this includes studio, 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom and One 3 bedroom) for women and children in Kitimat. Some tenant supports are also available including safety planning and referrals.
